The rising costs of traditional energy sources, increased consumption, and growing pollution have been a long-standing concern for people. This has led customers to adopt CNG after petrol and diesel, although the convenience and speed they expected from these energy sources were not fully met. However, as time passed, technological advancements in energy sources emerged, and solar energy began to gain priority. People are now using electricity generated from solar energy not only for transportation but also in their homes. The government has initiated various projects to raise awareness about solar energy. Due to technical progress, the use of solar energy has expanded in the automotive sector, and charging stations for electric vehicles are being established across the country. The expansion of eco-friendly charging stations not only offers convenience to customers but also creates better employment opportunities. These charging stations are leading us toward a brighter future.
When it comes to solar energy projects, the government has simplified the process of adopting solar energy and setting up charging stations to make it easier for people. With an emphasis on environmental awareness and a sustainable future, electric vehicles are being prioritized, and plans are underway to provide eco-friendly charging stations at major roads, parking areas, malls, and petrol pumps. The Indian government has issued certain guidelines regarding the installation of charging stations, allowing any individual or organization to set up a charging station for public use.
Some years ago, the government launched the National Electric Mobility Mission, aiming to have 6 million electric vehicles on Indian roads by 2020, with a target of 30% electric mobility by 2030. Experts estimate that this automotive mission plan could create 65 million jobs in the auto sector by 2026. Considering these future possibilities, plans are underway to establish eco-friendly charging station hubs in cities like Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon, Ghaziabad, Pune, Amravati, Chennai, Bangalore, and Hyderabad.
Several companies are involved in building these charging stations. EESSL is promoting the use of electric vehicles and has set a target of introducing 10,000 electric vehicles in government ministries and departments. So far, EESSL has successfully constructed 350 charging stations. To strengthen the automotive sector, companies such as Delhi Transco Limited, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited, Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited, Gujarat Energy Development Agency, and Bescom are working on establishing charging infrastructure. According to government guidelines, no license is required to install an eco-friendly charging station. Charging points will also be set up in residential areas, and it is stated that every 25 kilometers on highways should have a public charging station on both sides. Additionally, these companies will be responsible for maintaining the charging stations for three years. It is estimated that the cost of one charging station will be around 4 lakhs, with a separate power supply plan in place. The government will also provide a subsidy of 1,050 crores for setting up these charging stations, which will be established in collaboration with NTPC and Power Grid.
Electric vehicles offer several benefits, making them increasingly attractive to users. Some key advantages include:
- The cost of running an electric vehicle is significantly lower compared to petrol or diesel vehicles, as the cost of charging is about one-third of the cost of fueling a petrol car.
- Electric vehicles require less maintenance and servicing, and their parts, such as motors and radiators, are relatively inexpensive.
- Electric vehicles do not emit harmful gases, helping to protect the environment.
- Solar-powered charging stations are being developed, reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
- Electric vehicles can be charged using solar power plants instead of grid electricity.
- Compared to petrol or CNG vehicles, electric vehicles are lighter and offer better mileage.
