The rising costs of traditional energy sources, increasing consumption, and growing pollution have long been a source of concern for people. This has led customers to shift from petrol and diesel to CNG, although the convenience and speed they expected from these energy sources were not fully met. However, as time passed, technological advancements in energy sources began to evolve, and solar energy started gaining priority. People are now using electricity generated from solar energy both for transportation and at home. The government has also launched various initiatives to raise awareness about solar energy. Due to technical developments, the use of solar energy has expanded in the automotive sector, and charging stations for electric vehicles are being set up across the country. The expansion of eco-friendly charging stations not only offers convenience to consumers but also creates new job opportunities. These charging stations are leading us toward a brighter and sustainable future.
When it comes to solar energy projects, the government has simplified the process of setting up solar energy usage and charging stations to make it more accessible for the public. With an emphasis on environmental awareness and a vision for a better future, plans are underway to provide eco-friendly charging stations at major roads, parking areas, malls, and petrol pumps. The Indian government has issued certain guidelines under which any individual or organization can establish charging stations for public use.
A few years ago, the government launched the National Electric Mobility Mission, aiming to have 6 million electric vehicles on Indian roads by 2020 and to achieve 30% e-mobility by 2030. Experts estimate that this automotive mission plan could generate around 65 million jobs in the auto sector by 2026. Considering these promising opportunities, plans are in place to develop eco-friendly charging station hubs in cities like Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon, Ghaziabad, Pune, Amravati, Chennai, Bangalore, and Hyderabad.
Several companies are involved in the construction of charging stations. EESSL is actively promoting the use of electric vehicles and has set a target to introduce 10,000 electric vehicles in government ministries and departments. So far, the company has successfully established 350 charging stations. To strengthen the automotive sector, organizations such as Delhi Transco Limited, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited, Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited, Gujarat Energy Development Agency, and BESCOM are working on setting up charging infrastructure. According to government guidelines, no license is required to install eco-friendly charging stations. Charging points will also be set up in residential areas, with the requirement that a public charging station should be located every 25 kilometers on highways. Additionally, these companies will be responsible for maintaining the charging stations for three years. It is estimated that the cost of one charging station will be around 4 lakh rupees, with a separate power supply plan in place. The government will also provide a subsidy of 1,050 crore rupees for setting up these stations, which will be developed in collaboration with NTPC and Power Grid Corporation.
**Benefits of Electric Vehicles:**
Electric vehicles have gained popularity among users due to their affordability and environmental benefits. Some of the key advantages include:
- The cost of running an electric vehicle is significantly lower compared to petrol or diesel vehicles. Charging an electric vehicle costs about one-third of what it would take to travel the same distance in a petrol-powered car.
- Electric vehicles require less maintenance and servicing, and their parts, such as motors and radiators, are relatively inexpensive.
- They do not emit any harmful gases, helping to protect the environment.
- Solar-powered charging stations are being built to charge electric vehicles, reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
- Electric vehicles can be charged using solar power plants instead of grid electricity.
- Compared to petrol or CNG vehicles, electric vehicles are lighter and offer better mileage.
