Shanghai has developed an explosive detector that is more sensitive than a dog's nose.

Recently, the SIM series explosive detectors, which are more sensitive than the dog's nose, have been successfully developed at the Shanghai Institute of Microsystems and Information Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and passed the performance test of the Ministry of Public Security's Safety and Police Electronic Product Quality Monitoring Center. A few days ago, the Ministry of Public Security's Physical Identification Center issued the "Circular on Promoting the "SIM06 Trace Explosives Detector", suggesting that the provincial, autonomous, and municipal municipal public security bureaus, bureau fire stations (offices, corps), border defense bureaus (offices, corps) ) Promote use.

It is reported that the SIM series trace explosive detector developed by the institute is a high-tech product with complete intellectual property rights in China. It can be used for TNT nitro explosives, ammonium nitrate explosives, Octokin, plastic explosives, and emulsification. 9 kinds of common explosives such as explosives, B-type explosives, ammonium explosives, PW0 explosives and PW30 explosives are used for trace detection. The detection limit is up to 4ppt, and its sensitivity is far more than that of sniffing dogs. It is suitable for public security, armed police, military and other departments. Safety and security work, can be used for urban public transportation, railways, airports, stadiums, government departments, important conference venues, key buildings, customs / checkpoints, ports / terminals, letters / postal parcels, etc.

The "Shanghai Rail Transit Safety Standards" requires that all stations of Shanghai Rail Transit should impose mandatory sensors for the detection of explosives and toxic and hazardous chemical dangerous goods. It is reported that the SIM07 type trace explosive detector developed by the institute will soon be put into use at three demonstration stations of Shanghai Rail Transit Line 8. The leaders of the security department of the Shanghai World Expo Bureau also fully affirmed the performance of the SIM series explosive detectors developed by the institute, indicating that the SIM series of explosive detectors will play an important role in the explosion-proof and security inspection of the 2010 Shanghai World Expo.

Cheng Jiangong, a researcher at the Shanghai Institute of Microsystems and Information Technology, told the Science Times that the SIM series of trace explosives detectors use fluorescent polymer sensing technology based on explosive molecules such as TNT for some special fluorescent polymers. Fluorescence quenching effect, when there is a target explosive molecule such as TNT combined with polymer molecules, the fluorescence emitted by the polymer changes instantaneously. By detecting the fluorescence intensity of the polymer, it can be known whether there are explosive molecules such as TNT in the surrounding environment.

It is reported that only the United States owns this technology in the world, but the United States imposes a technical blockade on China. Most of the trace explosive detectors currently used in China are ion mobility spectrometry detectors imported from the United States. Compared with ion mobility spectrometry, fluorescent polymer sensing technology has higher sensitivity and better selectivity, and is considered to be one of the best techniques for trace detection and detection.

Cheng Jiangong said that the X-ray machines currently used in airports and railway stations are very effective for dangerous goods with regular shapes such as guns and knives, but the detection effect of explosives with irregular packaging shapes is not satisfactory. The SIM series of explosive detectors developed by the institute, like the sniffing dog, recognizes the volatile smell of explosives and is very effective for the detection of explosives in irregular packaging.

Shanghai Microsystems and Information Technology Institute began to develop high-performance explosive detectors in July 2005 to provide technical support for biochemical counter-terrorism. The research was funded by the National "863" Program, the Chinese Academy of Sciences "Hundred Talents Program", the Institute's major directional projects, the Shanghai Science and Technology Commission Innovation Team Project, the Shanghai Pujiang Talent Program, and the Shanghai Science and Technology Commission's Foundation Key Projects. The research results have applied for a number of national invention patents.
According to reports, in order to welcome the six-nation summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization held in Shanghai on June 13, 2006, the Shanghai Rail Transit Public Security Bureau held an anti-terrorism exercise at the Lujiazui subway station on June 8. During the exercise, the developed SIM06-I trace explosive detector was compared with the sniffer dog equipped with rail transit. The results show that the SIM06-I explosive detector is given in less than 1 minute. The alarm speed is significantly faster than that of the sniffing dog. In view of the good performance it showed during the exercise, the SIM06-I trace explosive detector developed by Microsystems was used for the explosion at Lujiazui subway station during the entire summit from June 13 to June 16. Object detection.

According to Cheng Jiangong, his team is currently developing a more sensitive trace explosive detector to enable detection of explosives over longer distances.
