On the morning of December 8, FAW Jiefang held a product launching ceremony for AMT heavy trucks in front of the Group Technology Center. As the first heavy truck product to match the AMT system in China, the five vehicles delivered to the customer fill the gap in the domestic heavy truck market.
According to reports, FAW's self-developed commercial vehicle AMT products are based on existing manual transmissions of FAW, adding an automatic transmission control system. The electronic control unit controls the selection of shift actuators and clutch actuators, and communicates with the engine. The automatic shift gear, clutch and throttle control are implemented to achieve automatic transmission shifting of the manual transmission. The model has two manual and automatic modes of operation. In the automatic mode, the shift selection and clutch release of the transmission are all controlled by the AMT Computer (TCU) and do not require the driver to perform any operation. In the manual mode, the driver can complete shifting by operating the shift control handle. In order to adapt to the conditions of use of the truck and ensure safety, the AMT system retains the clutch pedal. When the driver shifts gears in the starting mode or shifts the vehicle in the manual mode, the driver needs to operate the clutch to shift gears.
FAW's self-developed AMT system is targeted at high-end heavy-duty trucks. It will be matched with FAW's flagship Alibaba and J6 series models.
