Matteson house fire 7-4-11
The Matteson Fire Department responded to a residential fire at 946 Princeton late this morning. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy flames coming from the second floor of the two-story home. At the time, local units were already engaged on other emergency calls, prompting an immediate request for mutual aid. The fire was quickly escalated to a Box Alarm, with multiple departments mobilizing to the scene.
Firefighters from Matteson, Frankfort, Tinley Park, Park Forest, Flossmoor, Richton Park, Crete FPD, Chicago Heights, Oak Forest, and Country Club Hills arrived to assist. Karl Klotz, a local photographer, captured several powerful images of the incident, providing a vivid look at the intense firefighting efforts.
One image shows the fire burning through the roof as crews ventilate and wait for additional water lines to be deployed. Another highlights Frankfort Ladder 729, a 2008 Pierce Arrow XT 75' quint, positioned in the 'A' sector. The unit was used to deploy a master stream from the front of the building while Matteson crews handled other calls.
Another photo captures the operations chief discussing strategy with firefighters as they decide whether to enter the structure. Matteson Engine 6, a 2010 Pierce Velocity, was stationed at the front alongside Frankfort Ladder 729. Meanwhile, Flossmoor Engine 1340, an HME/Central, was staged further down the street.
Frankfort Ladder 729 also deployed its aerial for an elevated master stream, eliminating the need for rooftop ventilation as the fire had already vented naturally. Behind it, Matteson’s tower ladder stood ready. Park Forest Engine 56, an HME/Saulsbury, was also staged nearby, while Tinley Park Truck 204 arrived as the third truck on the scene, working without using its apparatus.
