Techstars Alabama EnergyTech Accelerator launches fourth class of startups
The Techstars Alabama EnergyTech Accelerator has officially launched its fourth cohort, marking a significant milestone with the largest group of startups to date. This year’s class features 12 innovative companies from nine U.S. states and Latvia, all set to participate in a rigorous 13-week mentorship program in Birmingham.
Since its inception in 2020, the accelerator has grown steadily, welcoming a total of 42 startups across three years. Under the leadership of Managing Director Nate Schmidt and Program Manager Brooke Gillis, the program has already generated over 200 jobs, with 32 remaining within the state. Matthew Jaeh and Rae’Mah Henderson, the new leaders, are determined to continue this momentum and expand the program’s impact.
“We’re thrilled to build on the success that Nate and Brooke have created,†said Jaeh. “These startups represent the top 1% of global applicants, and many have chosen Alabama as their home. We’re committed to shaping the future of energy right here.â€
Among this year’s standout startups is Ai-Ops, based in Mobile, Alabama, which develops AI-powered solutions for industrial control systems. BlueTanks, from Charlotte, North Carolina, helps EV drivers find the most convenient charging stations. Clever Offsets, located in New York, offers data-driven insights into the carbon offset market. EarthABC, from Cleveland, provides an open-access climate portal to help businesses achieve sustainability quickly.
EV Safe Charge, based in Los Angeles, introduces Ziggy, a robotic mobile EV charger. Grid Discovery, from Hoboken, New Jersey, transforms how microgrids are planned and proposed. Infranergy, in Miami, focuses on solar and battery storage solutions. Maverick IQ, from Atlanta, combines engineering, software, and IoT to cut costs and boost productivity.
Meredot, from Riga, Latvia, offers wireless charging for micromobility vehicles. Pitch Aeronautics, from Boise, Idaho, develops wind-stabilized drones for close-range tasks. ScoutIT, based in Raleigh, North Carolina, supports the EV battery circular economy. SplitEV, from New York, connects EV drivers with affordable charging options while helping owners monetize their assets.
Based in Birmingham, the Techstars Alabama EnergyTech Accelerator supports startups focused on clean energy, smart grids, and sustainability. The program is backed by key partners such as Alabama Power, the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama, the Alabama Department of Commerce, PowerSouth, the University of Alabama, and Southern Research.
