Working fire in Gary, IN 1-31-15

<

Here's a message from Eric Haak:

The Gary, Indiana Fire Department responded to six separate fires within just 12 hours on Saturday, January 31st. This particular fire was the last of the day, dispatched just before noon and located at 24th and Colfax—only two blocks north of Station 13. Earlier that morning, another fire had occurred at 36th and Colfax.
Like the other five structures involved, this one was also vacant. It was a single-story building measuring 35 by 50 feet, with an attached garage. The main fire appeared to be in the rear section, which looked like an addition to the original home. Firefighters made an initial interior attack, successfully knocking down a large portion of the flames. They then pulled back and finished extinguishing the fire in the rear from the outside. Among the responding units were Engines 8 and 13, as well as Truck 2.
