Bayer announced on March 31 that Bayer MaterialScience plans to build a world-class isophorone-diisocyanate (IPDI) production facility at Bayer Shanghai Integrated Base in China. The project has a total investment of 65 million euros and is expected to start production in 2015.

It is understood that China's high-growth automotive industry has a huge market demand for environmentally-friendly automotive coatings, and IPDI is a major raw material for advanced polyurethane coatings for automotive paints and other applications. In order to promote business development in China, Bayer announced at the end of last year that it would increase its capital by 1 billion euros in a production base in the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park and carry out a comprehensive investment package. The IPDI expansion plan is part of this plan.
