**2XZ Series Rotary Vane Vacuum Pump** **Construction:** The 2XZ series rotary vane vacuum pump is a two-stage, high-speed, direct-drive rotary vane vacuum pump. It operates on the same principle as the 2X type pump. The rotor is eccentrically mounted inside the cylindrical stator housing, and vanes are installed in slots within the rotor. As the rotor spins at high speed, centrifugal force and spring pressure push the vanes outward, maintaining contact with the inner surface of the stator throughout rotation. This creates a sealing effect between the inlet and outlet ports of the stator. As the rotor turns, the volume of the chamber connected to the inlet increases, allowing gas to be drawn in. Meanwhile, the volume near the outlet decreases, compressing the gas that has been drawn in. When the pressure reaches a certain level, the exhaust valve opens, releasing the compressed gas through the outlet. This process creates a vacuum on the intake side of the pump. Figure 1 illustrates the working principle of a single-stage pump. A double-stage pump consists of two single-stage pumps connected in series. At higher intake pressures, both stages operate simultaneously, while at lower pressures, gas is first expelled from the first stage to the second before being released into the atmosphere. The 2XZ pump is equipped with a gas-ballast valve, which allows a controlled amount of air to enter the exhaust chamber. This helps reduce the partial pressure of vapor in the discharge, preventing condensation of vapors in the oil. However, using the gas-ballast valve reduces the ultimate vacuum level and may cause an increase in pump temperature. The 2XZ series is known for its compact design, lightweight, quiet operation, and ease of starting. It also includes features to prevent oil backflow and oil leakage from the shaft seal, ensuring environmental cleanliness. **Field of Application:** This pump is widely used in vacuum systems, serving as a main pump, a fore pump for diffusion or molecular pumps, or as a holding pump in vacuum systems. It is commonly found in electro-vacuum industries, vacuum flask manufacturing, and vacuum welding. It is particularly suitable for laboratory use due to its small size, light weight, and quiet performance. The pump can operate continuously under atmospheric temperatures ranging from 5°C to 40°C, provided the intake pressure is below 1230 Pa. If the gas contains more than 90% relative humidity, the gas-ballast valve should be open. The pump must not be operated with the inlet port fully open to the atmosphere for more than one minute.
