China Drying News has been focusing on how to improve air quality for several days and a wide range of severe haze weather. The reporter learned from an interview yesterday that the petroleum and chemical industries in recent years have not only reduced the emissions of the production process through structural adjustment, but also mitigated atmospheric pollution by promoting methanol fuel, upgrading the quality of oil products, and developing the coal chemical industry.

According to experts, one of the most serious culprits in the recent heavy pollution is motor vehicle exhaust emissions. In recent years, the petrochemical industry has promoted the use of methanol fuel to reduce the emission of pollutants from motor vehicle exhaust. Professor Liu Shengquan, director of the Shaanxi Key Laboratory of Transport New Energy Development, Application and Automobile Energy Conservation, and Chang’an University, told reporters that CO, hydrocarbons, and NOx emissions from methanol fuel vehicles were reduced by 25% to 35%, respectively, compared to ordinary gasoline. % ~ 35%, 10% ~ 15%, which will inevitably reduce the PM2.5 concentration in the urban atmosphere, in particular, reduce the concentration of carbon and nitrogen-containing harmful substances in PM2.5. According to report, in March last year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology determined that Shanxi Province, Shaanxi Province, and Shanghai Municipality were used as pilot regions for methanol vehicles, thereby bringing the promotion of methanol fuel to the national level. Up to now, the annual use of methanol fuel has reached more than 6 million tons.

The continuous improvement of the quality of gasoline has also greatly reduced the emissions of motor vehicle exhaust pollutants, especially sulfur dioxide emissions. After the petrochemical industry completed the upgrade and supply of national-to-country vehicle oil products, it began to promote the fourth-grade gasoline equivalent to the latest Euro IV standard in Europe last year. Cai Zhigang, deputy director of the Shanghai Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau's Pollution Prevention and Control Department, said that although the sulfur content in gasoline and diesel is not high, sulfur will produce nitrogen oxides and PM2.5 when the engine is burned. This will greatly reduce the quality of oil and gas. Sulfur content is reduced to reduce these two pollutants.

According to Liu Jianlin, chief engineer of the Jiangsu Provincial Environmental Protection Agency, Nanjing's 8736 motor vehicles were tracked and surveyed and found that the concentration of nitrogen oxides emitted from the use of the country’s fourth-standard gasoline compared with the use of country two and national three gasoline decreased by 56. 8%, 43.6%.

On June 19 last year, Qilu Petrochemical first supplied 1,600 tons of the latest Beijing 5 gasoline to the Beijing area, which promoted the further upgrading of Beijing gasoline. Compared with the previous gasoline, Beijing 5 gasoline sulfur content from no more than 50 mg per kilogram to 10 mg or less. This alone will reduce the total emissions of Beijing's motor vehicle exhaust by 40%. "If there is no significant increase in the quality of gasoline, the haze situation in Beijing will be much worse than it is now," said one expert.

Technical Consultant Tang Hongqing of China National Synthetic Oil Engineering Co., Ltd. and Nan Yunjie, Minister of Technology Development of Yitai Coal-to-liquids Co., Ltd., told the reporter that the advent of coal-based oil, the main product of modern coal chemical industry, also helped reduce air pollution. Tang Hongqing said that sulfur content has not been measured in coal-to-oil products and the nitrogen content is lower than that of conventional gasoline. According to them, last year, the petrochemical industry had sold about 1.1 million tons of clean coal-to-oil products to the market.
