3-Alarm fire in Franklin Park, 8-10-20

<

Just got this update from the Schiller Park Firefighters Local 5230 Facebook page. On August 10, 2020, they were called to assist at a third-alarm industrial building fire in Franklin Park. The team from Schiller Park really stepped up—members from Truck 5 went inside with a 2 1/2-inch hose line to tackle the blaze, while another crew helped set up ladders from Franklin Park and climbed onto the roof. Once they were on the roof, they made some trench cuts that allowed them to use a handline to extinguish all the hotspots. They were on the scene for about three hours, and during that time, a huge wind and rainstorm rolled through the area. Meanwhile, the rest of the Schiller Park firefighters who were on duty stayed behind to handle multiple storm-related calls, dealing with downed power lines, fallen trees, and various emergency medical service (EMS) calls. Big thanks to Tim Olk for sharing these incredible photos! [Image description: A photo showing the intense smoke and flames from the warehouse fire in Franklin Park. When they returned to the station, they made sure to thoroughly clean, inspect, and prepare all their equipment for future calls. Each firefighter also had to wash their gear, which is now mandatory to help reduce the risk of cancer. It’s a reminder of the dedication and commitment these professionals have—not just to fighting fires but also to protecting their own health in the long run. These images really capture the intensity and teamwork involved in handling such a large-scale incident. It’s inspiring to see how they managed not only the fire but also the additional challenges posed by the storm. Kudos to everyone involved!
