Barrington house fire 3-28-12

<

The Barrington Fire Department was called to a house fire on N. Church Road at 23170 around 9:30 PM on Wednesday. Residents reported flames coming from the garage, which quickly spread into the main structure of the home. Upon arrival, Barrington Engine 363 found a fully involved garage fire connected to the house. Soon after, Lake Zurich Engine 2 made a U-turn in the dead-end cul-de-sac and laid 400 feet of 5-inch supply line to the corner of the street. A portable tank was dropped by one of Barrington’s tankers, and water supply was established as crews advanced two lines through separate doors of the house. The building was situated on a hill, with a one-story front and a two-story side. As the fire grew more intense, the Barrington Fire Department activated a MABAS Box Alarm, bringing in additional resources from Wauconda, Fox River Grove, and East Dundee. Long Grove Tanker 55 also arrived, along with Palatine Truck 85 and engines from Hoffman Estates, Palatine Rural, and Carpentersville. Rolling Meadows provided backup for a company that couldn’t send an ambulance, while Cary Squad 255 set up a light tower to illuminate the scene. Chief officers from Long Grove, Wauconda, and Carpentersville were on-site. Barrington Engine 3 operated from the cul-de-sac, supplying three lines total. Firefighters from Carpentersville worked to knock down hot spots in the destroyed garage. Despite the extensive damage, all residents safely evacuated. Tragically, the family dog did not survive. The Box Alarm was canceled shortly after 10:30 PM. Larry Shapiro arrived after the fire was out and captured these images. More photos can be viewed HERE.
