Here's a message from Karl Klotz: Tinley Park is replacing its 1976 Seagrave 100′ rear mount with a 2013 Pierce Velocity 100′ rear mount. Photo by Karl Klotz Tinley Park Fire Department has officially placed an order for a new Pierce Velocity 100-foot heavy-duty aluminum aerial ladder, and it will be delivered without a pump. This unit will replace the current Truck Co. 201, which is a 1976 Seagrave aerial ladder, and also Squad Co. 201, a 1994 Spartan Darley pumper. The decision to upgrade was driven by the need for more modern, efficient equipment capable of handling a wider range of emergency situations. The new aerial ladder will replace this 1994 Spartan/Darley pumper/squad, along with the old Seagrave ladder truck. Photo by Karl Klotz The new apparatus is specifically designed to support specialized rescue operations, basic hazmat response, and fire suppression. It will be stationed at Station 1 and will serve as a jump company for approximately one year while the department works on adding more staffing. Currently, only one crew is assigned to Station 1, which handles Engine Co. 201. Truck Co. 201 will be dispatched for all box alarms when a truck is needed, full-still incidents in the village, I-80 auto accidents, and specialized rescue calls. Eventually, it will become a fully staffed truck company. Right now, only Truck Co. 204 at Station 4 is fully staffed. The new Pierce is expected to arrive in the spring of 2013. This will mark the first time Tinley Park Fire Department acquires a Pierce aerial ladder, and it will be the first straight ladder since 1976. The department currently operates five Pierce Dash engines and two 95-foot E-One tower ladders assigned to Truck Co. 202 and Truck Co. 204. The new unit represents a major step forward in equipment modernization and operational capability for the department.
