Cummins to recall about 270 workers

<

On Wednesday evening Beijing time news, diesel engine manufacturer Cummins Inc. (CMI) said it plans to recall about 270 production workers who had been temporarily laid off or changed positions to cope with the increase in orders for Dodge Ram pickup turbo diesel engines.

The Chrysler Group is trying to build inventory for its 2010 Dodge Ram pickup truck, which uses Cummins's 6.7-liter turbo diesel engine.

Due to the increase in orders, Cummins plans to add a second shift to the MidRange Engine Plant in Columbus, Indiana, and plan to maintain it until the end of the year.

After this recall, Cummins will have about 600 hourly workers in this factory.

The company has begun to notify employees and plans to start a second shift on October 19th. Cummins started production of the 2010 Dodge Rams engine in mid-September. There is currently only one production shift and about 340 workers.
