Traditional UPS battery test and maintenance means

<

General UPS power supply requirements for the battery: meet a certain terminal voltage; the battery should have the characteristics of outputting a large current at the moment of starting the discharge; meet a certain capacity to ensure the time of the inverter power supply.

1. Use a multimeter to measure the terminal voltage of the battery

Practice has proved that it is impossible to determine whether the old battery has failed by measuring the floating terminal voltage of the UPS battery with a multimeter. Therefore, it is generally necessary to measure the terminal voltage of the battery offline or online. The terminal voltage of the battery under test is about 12V (for a 12V battery), and the minimum cannot be lower than 10.5V. A battery that is less than 10.5V is an undervoltage or has failed battery. If the battery is still less than 12V after charging or activating the charging back-end voltage, it is a failed battery.

2. Test whether the UPS battery has the characteristics of starting a large current at the moment of starting

The switching time requirement of the backup UPS power supply from the mains supply to the inverter is less than 7ms. The general design is about 7-5ms. That is to say, once the mains supply is interrupted, the UPS battery must output the current required by the load in less than 4-5ms. Some failed batteries can meet the requirements of terminal voltage and capacity, but can not meet the requirements of high current in less than 4-5ms, and are also unqualified batteries. The characteristics of the UPS battery's instantaneous output of large current can only be tested when the mains is turned off. There is a certain risk when the battery performance is not known, and it is generally not carried out. The UPS battery can't output enough current in an instant, usually because the battery has not been discharged for a long time. The UPS battery that discharges regularly or has periodic discharge basically does not have this problem.

3. Determine the capacity of the UPS battery

The traditional method for judging the capacity of the UPS battery is the same as the method for discriminating the general battery. The entire battery pack is disconnected from the communication power system and the resistance wire is discharged at a constant current of eight or ten hours, and then the first one reaches the discharge termination voltage. The discharge time and current of the single battery are used to estimate the capacity.

Traditional capacity testing has the following disadvantages:

a. The battery pack needs to be disconnected from the system to increase the risk of system crash;

b. The discharge time is long, and manual test records are required, and the workload is large. In addition, the UPS battery is generally installed in the box type cabinet, and the test work is not very easy;

c. The resistance wire is heavy and has red heat, which is unsafe and works hard.
