The authoritative experts in the field of hydrogen peroxide, the president of the peroxide branch of the China Inorganic Salt Industry Association and the vice president of the Liming Chemical Research Institute Zheng Huaimin made an in-depth analysis of this when they were interviewed by reporters last week.
Reporter: As a big producer of hydrogen peroxide, does China also have the advantages of technology and innovation?
Zheng Huaimin: The good news is that at present, China has reached the international advanced level of independent technology. Taking the fixed bed hydrogen peroxide technology as an example, it is a technology independently researched and developed by the Dawning Institute of Chemical Industry and has independent intellectual property rights and has great influence at home and abroad. This technology is mature and reliable, has reached the international advanced level and won the second prize of national science and technology progress, among which the concentration process of rare products has obtained national invention patents. The technology has been promoted in more than 50 domestic enterprises and has been exported to Indonesia twice.
It is worth noting that the current awareness of innovation in the hydrogen peroxide industry is not strong, technological progress is slow, and trademarks, patents, and standard strategies are not tightly grasped. The enterprise has not yet driven from the traditional elements to the innovation elements. Most companies do not have R&D centers, and there is no fundamental change in the status of manufacturing without creation. Reversing this situation is the direction of the industry's efforts and is also the focus of the work of the peroxide branch of China's inorganic salt society.
Reporter: What are the directions of domestic hydrogen peroxide technology?
Zheng Huaimin: First of all, it is to focus on the process enhancement technology of hydrogen peroxide produced by the antimony method. At present, the level of process enhancement technology in our country is relatively low, especially when the device is large-scaled. The largest single unit abroad is 700,000 tons/year, and China is only 200,000 tons/year. The next step is to develop a technology for the direct synthesis of hydrogen peroxide using hydrogen and oxygen as raw materials. The technology has made great progress abroad and China is carrying out this work.
In addition, the technology for the direct synthesis of propylene oxide from hydrogen peroxide and propylene abroad has also matured, and industrial facilities are under construction. At present, China is actively researching and developing. In 2007, the total output of propylene oxide (PO) in China was about 750,000 tons, and most of them were produced using the chlorohydrin process with serious pollution. The process equipment is heavily corroded, and a large amount of calcium chloride and industrial waste water (about 30 to 40 tons of waste water per ton of PO) are generated and are difficult to handle. Hydrogen peroxide direct oxidation produces propylene oxide, with almost no three wastes. Since the scale of the single set of synthetic propylene oxide units is more than 100,000 tons/year, and 0.7 tons of 100% hydrogen peroxide is consumed per ton of propylene oxide, the scale of the hydrogen peroxide equipment to be matched with it is also large. It is expected that the application of chemical synthesis in the coming years will be an important growth point in the hydrogen peroxide industry. Therefore, the large-scale production of the deuterium peroxide method is one of the directions for future development.
Reporter: What is the current most effective application of hydrogen peroxide in China?
Zheng Huaimin: The paper industry is the main source of pollution in China. It is the key and difficult point for pollution control, and it is also a large water user. The use of hydrogen peroxide technology can not only reduce the production costs of the paper industry, but also reduce pollution, and has achieved satisfactory results.
Hydrogen peroxide is a chlorine-free (TCF), non-polluting, excellent bleaching agent. It is also a delignification agent and has been widely used for the deinking and bleaching of mechanical, chemical and waste pulps. The promotion and use of hydrogen peroxide in this field will not only be of great significance to the protection of China's environment and resources, but will also make the paper industry break through environmental bottlenecks, and it will also greatly promote the development of the hydrogen peroxide industry.
Reporter: Does the hydrogen peroxide industry have a sustainable development prospect?
Zheng Huaimin: With the development of our country's economy and people's growing awareness of environmental protection, the application of hydrogen peroxide in green chemical synthesis, environmental protection, and drinking water disinfection continues to expand, production costs will gradually decrease, and the demand will increase. If used in mining and metallurgy can increase the extraction rate of gold, used in aseptic packaging in the food processing industry, in the cosmetics industry, industrial wastewater treatment, gas washing and disinfection and sterilization applications are also expected to increase.
The demand for hydrogen peroxide in the environmental protection market in China will show a growth trend in the coming years. Thus, the hydrogen peroxide industry has a very promising market.
