The two environmental protection devices have significant effect on energy conservation and emission reduction
On January 22, the dry gas and liquefied gas desulfurization systems at the Golmud Refinery of the Qinghai Oilfield, along with the desorption and recovery unit for the 100,000-ton methanol plant, continued to operate smoothly for over a month, maintaining high performance and delivering excellent results in terms of both economic and social benefits.
The Golmud Refinery has long emphasized clean and sustainable development alongside economic growth. During the "11th Five-Year Plan" period, the refinery prioritized the installation of dry gas and liquefied gas desulfurization equipment as a key environmental project. The project successfully produced qualified products on December 22, 2007. Previously, the high sulfur content in dry gas caused severe corrosion issues when used as fuel. To address this, the refinery accelerated the implementation of desulfurization, acid water stripping, and sulfur recovery projects. After the system was put into operation, the sulfur content in dry gas dropped from 5,000 ppm to below 20 ppm. As a result, all the plant’s heating furnaces and boilers were converted to use dry gas, significantly reducing natural gas consumption.
The desorption gas recovery and utilization system at the 100,000-ton methanol plant is another critical component of the facility’s energy-saving and emission-reduction initiatives. Since its full commissioning in December 2007, it has proven highly effective, saving nearly 400 standard cubic meters of fuel and gas per hour. Additionally, the plant has seen a significant reduction in exhaust emissions, further enhancing its environmental performance. These achievements reflect the refinery’s ongoing commitment to innovation, sustainability, and operational excellence.
