Box alarm fire in the Lincolnshire-Riverwoods FPD, 12-26-17
Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District (LRFPD) and nearby firefighters were dispatched to 1505 Garden Court in unincorporated Lake County just before noon on December 26, 2017, following reports of a house fire. As units approached the scene, they spotted a large plume of smoke rising high into the sky. Upon arrival, LRFPD Battalion 51 observed flames bursting from the garage and attic, prompting an immediate upgrade to a working fire.
The home was reportedly unoccupied at the time and undergoing renovations, which may have contributed to the rapid spread of the fire. Unfortunately, the first fire hydrant on the scene was inoperable, forcing crews to rely on water supply from LRFPD Squad 51. Buffalo Grove Engine 26 deployed a long line from the end of the block to maintain a continuous water flow. Wheeling Tower 24 was also positioned in front of the house to assist with operations.
Firefighters launched an interior attack on the second floor and attic, successfully knocking down the fire in those areas, while other teams worked to contain flames in the garage. The incident was escalated to a MABAS Box Alarm, bringing additional resources to the scene. A wide range of departments responded, including LRFPD, Wheeling, Buffalo Grove, Mt Prospect, Northbrook, Prospect Heights, Des Plaines, Highland Park, Deerfield-Bannockburn, Gurnee, Wauconda, and others, along with chief officers from Libertyville and Countryside.
Several photos captured the intensity of the blaze, showing heavy smoke and flames engulfing the structure. Additional images highlighted the efforts of emergency personnel and the challenges faced during the response. More photos are available at Shapirophotography.net.
