Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District (LRFPD) and neighboring fire departments were dispatched to 1505 Garden Court in unincorporated Lake County just before noon on December 26, 2017, in response to a house fire. As the units approached, they reported seeing a large plume of smoke rising high into the sky. Upon arrival, LRFPD Battalion 51 observed flames bursting from both the garage and attic, prompting an immediate upgrade to a working fire.
The home appeared to be vacant at the time, undergoing renovations. Unfortunately, the first hydrant was found to be non-functional. To maintain a steady water supply, Buffalo Grove Engine 26 laid a long line from the end of the block, while LRFPD Squad 51 began operations. Wheeling Tower 24 was also positioned in front of the residence to assist with the incident.
Inside, firefighters managed to knock down the fire on the second floor and in the attic, while other crews worked to control the blaze in the garage. The alarm was escalated to a MABAS Box Alarm, bringing additional resources to the scene.
An extensive list of responding units included: LRFPD Battalion 51, Squad 51, Ambulance 51, Battalion 52, Ambulance 52, Engine 53, 5101, and 5100; Wheeling Tower 24, Engine 42, Ambulance 24, Battalion 24, and 2401; Buffalo Grove Engine 26 and Ambulance 26; Mt Prospect Ambulance 14; Northbrook Engine 10; Prospect Heights Tower 9, Des Plaines Engine 61; Highland Park Engine 34; Deerfield-Bannockburn Squad 19 and 2001; Gurnee Squad 1352; Wauconda Tower 341; plus chief officers from Libertyville and Countryside.
