Flyability launches Inspector 3.0
April 20, 2021—Flyability has made waves once again with the release of Inspector 3.0, a groundbreaking piece of software designed to revolutionize how inspectors locate defects during internal assessments. This marks a significant leap forward in Flyability's mission to eliminate the need for humans to enter hazardous confined spaces.
As a leader in remote internal inspection solutions, Flyability is thrilled to introduce a tool that empowers inspectors using the Elios 2 to accurately identify the exact locations of any anomalies they encounter. After a successful beta test involving over 150 participants, Inspector 3.0 is now available to all Elios 2 users.
Patrick Thévoz, CEO of Flyability, expressed his excitement: "Inspector 3.0 represents a major advancement toward our goal of keeping workers safe. By giving inspectors precise insights into where their findings are located, we're helping them operate more efficiently and delivering better outcomes for their clients."
Traditional manual inspections allow inspectors to naturally pinpoint defects since they’re physically present at the site of the issue. However, the introduction of advanced Remote Visual Inspection (RVI) tools like the Elios 2 introduces challenges, particularly concerning indoor localization. Unlike outdoor environments where GPS is widely available, indoor settings lack such straightforward tracking options.
This challenge has been addressed by Inspector 3.0, which creates sparse point clouds directly from data gathered by the Elios 2. These point clouds provide clear visualizations of defect locations without requiring costly technologies like LiDAR or extensive computational processing.
Simon Kumm, an expert in confined space inspections at InspecDrone GmbH, highlights the practical impact: "Previously, we might recognize the presence of damage but struggle to determine its exact position. Inspector 3.0 eliminates this uncertainty."
Locational accuracy is vital in maintenance operations. Imagine needing to excavate ten feet of soil to reach a damaged pipe in a wastewater system—having incorrect coordinates could delay repairs significantly. Moreover, accurate location data ensures seamless coordination among various teams involved in maintenance activities, from scaffold builders to repair crews.
Thibault Chatillon from Setec echoed this sentiment: "The localization capability of Inspector 3.0 was always a demand from my clients. It’s finally here."
