Still & Box Alarm fire in Chicago, 1/6/17

This message comes from Jim Skrabel:
Hi everyone,
I just wanted to share some photos from the fire that happened at the Still and Box located at 11661 S. Western Avenue last Friday afternoon. These images were captured by my daughter, Heather Garcia, who happens to live close to where the fire took place. She has an incredible eye for detail, and her photos really capture the intensity of the situation.

The fire seemed to originate in the attached garage at the rear of the property before spreading into the main house on both levels. It was quite a sight to see how quickly it escalated.

And here’s what Dennis McGuire, Jr., had to say about the same incident:
Hey folks,
I managed to get down to the scene at 11661 S Western Avenue on Friday. Unfortunately, all I could use for taking pictures was my phone, but I still think they turned out okay. From what I could tell, the fire initially broke out in the garage behind the house and then spread rapidly into the house itself. It was intense to witness!
Squad 5 was unfortunately out of service, which meant they had to call in an additional truck to help manage the situation. Here are some shots I managed to snap:

The smoke was thick and heavy, making it difficult for firefighters to work efficiently. You can really see the effort and dedication of the first responders in these photos.

It was clear that the fire had already done significant damage by the time the crews arrived. The heat was palpable even from a distance.

Despite the challenges, the firefighters worked tirelessly to control the blaze. They’re truly heroes in every sense of the word.

If you know anyone affected by this fire, please consider reaching out to offer support. It’s always tough when something like this happens, especially in your own neighborhood.
Take care,
Dennis McGuire, Jr.
