3M launches two new RFID electrical device identification labels

<

3M Dynatel's positioning and identification division has expanded its RFID electrical identification product line with the introduction of two new RFID tags designed to help track damaged cables or pipes. These innovative tags allow utility companies and construction teams to quickly identify the location and depth of underground infrastructure without the need for digging or relying on traditional metal detectors. The former method can risk damaging cables, while the latter is ineffective for non-metallic pipes like those made of plastic. The first type of tag features a compact disc design that can detect cables and pipes located approximately 3 feet below the surface. The second tag is embedded within a larger 16-inch diameter disc, capable of identifying underground utilities as shallow as 9 inches from the ground. Both tags are part of 3M’s broader range of spherical and disc-shaped labels, which are used for permanent identification of utility equipment and other critical assets. These new tags offer enhanced accuracy and reliability, making them ideal for use in various environments. For example, the round label is already being utilized at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to locate cables and pipes buried 5 feet underground, helping to identify the type of equipment in place. This advancement not only improves operational efficiency but also reduces the risk of accidental damage during maintenance or construction activities. With these new RFID solutions, 3M continues to lead the way in providing smart, durable, and effective utility identification systems.
