3M launches two new RFID electrical device identification labels

<

3M Dynatel's positioning and identification division has expanded its RFID electrical identification product line with the introduction of two new RFID tags designed for tracking damaged cables or pipes. These innovative tags enable utility companies and construction teams to quickly identify the location and depth of underground infrastructure without the need for digging or using traditional metal detectors. This approach avoids potential damage to cables and is especially effective for plastic pipes, which are typically undetectable by conventional methods. The first tag features a compact disc design that can locate cables and pipes up to 3 feet below the surface. The second tag is embedded in a larger disc measuring 16 inches in diameter, capable of detecting underground utilities as shallow as 9 inches. Both tags are part of 3M’s existing range of spherical and disc-shaped labels, which provide long-lasting identification for utility equipment and other critical assets. One of these round labels is already in use at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, where it helps locate cables and pipes buried 5 feet underground, allowing staff to easily identify the type of equipment installed. With this new addition, 3M continues to enhance its solutions for utility management, offering more accurate, efficient, and reliable ways to track and manage underground infrastructure.
