Where are they now … LaGrange
I recently came across something really interesting that was shared by Martin Nowak. A while back, he encountered the owner of what used to be an ambulance from the La Grange Fire Department. As the story goes, after serving the fire department, it was transferred to the local police department before eventually being sold at a public auction. The current owner mentioned he was considering restoring it. Just the other day, I managed to get some photos of this old rig, which happens to be a 1970s Chevy Suburban.
Special thanks go out to Bill Friedrich for helping me locate these images. It’s always fascinating to see how vehicles like this evolve over time and end up in such unique situations. Below are some photos taken by Martin Nowak, capturing different angles of this former emergency vehicle.

Each image tells its own story about the vehicle's journey through various departments and its eventual transition to private hands. It’s amazing to think about all the people who may have relied on this ambulance during emergencies, and now it stands as a nostalgic piece of history. If you're a fan of vintage emergency vehicles or just enjoy stories of how things change over time, this is definitely something worth checking out!
