Here's a firsthand account from Eric Haak: At 04:45 on Sunday morning, December 23rd, Engine 75 arrived at the scene of a two-and-a-half story frame building on 117th and LaSalle Street. They reported a fire in the structure. Shortly after, Battalion 22 called for a box and mentioned that there was fire in two buildings. There was significant fire in the attic of the frame house, and crews had to force entry to gain access. Once inside, they managed to knock down the fire before it could spread further. The crews worked quickly and efficiently under challenging conditions, showing great coordination and skill.
