Refinery equipment automation, intelligence, etc. continue to improve

<

On March 27, leaders of the China National Petroleum Refining and Chemical Company emphasized at a refining equipment management meeting that this year presents significant challenges. A total of 175 major process units in the refinery segment are scheduled for shutdown and overhaul, and it is well known that 60% of refining accidents occur during equipment inspection and maintenance. To address this, the company is focusing on enhancing equipment management standards and promoting controlled production practices. Ensuring the safe and stable operation of equipment has become the top priority for the year. Currently, the refining and chemical sector manages over 120,000 sets of equipment, along with approximately 1.1 million pieces of instrumentation and electrical devices. Managing such a vast and complex system to ensure safety, stability, reliability, environmental compliance, and cost efficiency is no small task. With the expansion of refinery facilities and the increasing automation, intelligence, and complexity of equipment, the adoption of advanced technologies and management tools has become essential to guarantee safe operations and achieve comprehensive production control. To support these goals, the "China Petroleum Refining and Chemical Company Equipment Integrated Management Platform" has been officially launched after expert testing and acceptance. This platform offers valuable insights into improving equipment management strategies. Additionally, the sector has introduced Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) technology for certain critical equipment. RBI not only provides scientific and practical methods for managing pressure vessels and pipelines but also lays a solid foundation for long-term and safe equipment operation. So far, 57 refining or chemical plants have implemented RBI, with 43 already completed. To further enhance the safety and stability of key equipment and large units, the refining and chemical sector has gradually expanded condition monitoring points across 292 critical units in nine chemical companies. Currently, 210 online monitoring systems are installed and networked, covering 71.9% of the target areas. This marks the initial establishment of a comprehensive online monitoring and fault diagnosis system for China’s oil refining and chemical industry, significantly contributing to operational safety and efficiency.
