The conical twin screw is different from the parallel twin screw in appearance. Its two ends have different diameters. The diameter of the feeding section is large, while the diameter of the homogenization section is small, and the middle is gradually transitioned. The conical twin-screw is a meshing type, and most of them are counter-rotating. Southwest Chemical's first tower hoisted successfully
Recently, a significant milestone was achieved at Yunnan Yunwei Group Co., Ltd.'s 500,000-ton synthetic ammonia project site, where the all-stainless-steel methanol scrubber—recognized as the first high tower in Southwest China and the second-tallest in the country—was successfully lifted into place. This event marked a new chapter in the development of Yunnan's chemical industry and showcased cutting-edge advancements in equipment lifting technology.
As a key component of the landmark Yunnan Coal Chemicals (Qujing) Base project, the methanol scrubber plays a vital role in the 500,000-ton-per-year ammonia synthesis facility. The project integrates world-leading technologies from several international companies, including the pulverized coal pressurized gasification technology from Dutch Shell Corporation, the sub-process technology from Germany’s Linde Company, the low-pressure synthesis technology from Denmark’s Torsorp, and the gasification furnace technology from Spain’s BBE Company. These advanced systems ensure high technological standards, superior performance, and state-of-the-art equipment.
The methanol scrubber stands 75 meters tall, weighs 555 tons, and has a diameter of 4 meters. It was installed by Yunnan Second Installation Engineering Company using a 1,250-ton double-gantry crane imported from the UK, with the lift executed through computer-controlled hydraulic technology. This method ensured precision and safety during the complex operation.
The project follows an internationally advanced EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) general contracting model, with one of China's top engineering firms serving as the main contractor. Currently, the project is in full-scale equipment installation, and it is expected to be completed and start production on August 15, 2007. Once operational, this facility will become a major highlight of the Yunnan Coal Chemicals Qujing Base, driving regional industrial growth and technological progress.
