In the first half of this year, China’s auto production and sales exceeded 4.3 million vehicles.
According to the latest data released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers on Thursday, the automobile industry in China experienced strong growth during the first half of this year. From January to June, total vehicle production reached 4,465,700 units, while sales totaled 4,373,800 units—showing year-on-year increases of 22.36% and 23.31%, respectively.
Within this period, passenger car production and sales hit 3.514 million and 3.0841 million units, rising by 20.86% and 22.26% compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, commercial vehicle sales reached 1,305,300 units, with production at 1,289,700 units, marking growth of 26.12% and 25.89% year-over-year.
In terms of sales rankings, the top ten automakers were SAIC, FAW, Dongfeng, Changan, BAIC, GAC, Chery, Brilliance, Geely, and Hafei. Except for a slight drop in Hafei’s sales, all other companies saw growth, with Guangzhou Automobile, Chery, and Brilliance showing more significant improvements. These ten companies collectively accounted for 3,623,900 units sold, making up 82.88% of the total auto market.
For passenger cars, the top ten brands included SAIC-GM-Wuling, Shanghai Volkswagen, FAW-Volkswagen, Shanghai GM, Chery, Changan, Guangzhou Honda, Dongfeng Nissan, Beijing Hyundai, and FAW Toyota. Together, they sold 1.7874 million units, representing 57.96% of the total passenger car market.
On the commercial vehicle side, the leading companies were Beiqi Foton, Dongfeng, FAW, JAC, Jinbei, CNHTC, Changan, Jiangling, Nanqi, and Shaanxi Auto. These ten firms sold 865,750 commercial vehicles between January and June, accounting for 67.26% of the overall commercial vehicle market.
The continued growth in both passenger and commercial vehicle segments highlights the resilience and expansion of China's automotive sector. With increasing demand and steady production, the industry is well-positioned for further development in the coming months.
